The Beginners Course is designed to take non-runners/ low ability runners through to a 30 minute continuous run over a 10 week course. It is similar to programmes such as “Couch to 5k” that you may have heard of, but with the huge added advantage of running with others and being supported and guided by experienced runners and a qualified England Athletics Running Coach.
The next course will run from 20th January 2025 for 10 weeks and culminate in a graduation parkrun which is provisionally planned for 29th March. The graduation date is subject to change if we have particularly inclement weather during our 10 weeks (ice/ snow).
The course will cost just £12 and all we ask in return is good commitment.
This course includes
- Mondays 7pm – a coach led structured program over 10 weeks (we ask for reasonable commitment to attend these sessions)
- Thursdays 7pm – optional “homework club” alongside our main club which will be overseen by a run leader
- A whatsApp group to support each other and where we will share course information with you as we progress through the course
- A Graduation parkrun at the end of the course where the main club members will support and celebrate your achievement
- Epsom Oddballs Running Club membership until 31st March 2026!
Our sessions will be at 7pm on Mondays and last approximately 45-60 minutes.
Our coach, Jim, has prepared a carefully planned program which will guide you towards being able to run 5km. As with everything we all have individual targets depending on underlying fitness, age, physique etc so Jim will help you achieve your individual goals. We hope that by completing our Beginners program we are then able to welcome you into Epsom Oddballs Run Club and you can then participate in our weekly training sessions. Existing members will help in mentoring you through the program and lending support.
What we expect from you
- To attend as many of the Monday sessions as possible
- To complete the homework runs as much as possible
- To support each other and trust us through the course!
Ultimately you will succeed in this course if you stick with it, but you really do get out what you put in. Our most successful runners in the past are the ones who have fully committed to the course.
The course will include 10 weeks of coached sessions, “homework” to support your training and support from existing members of Epsom Oddballs Run Club.
The evenings will be dark, but we will aim to use well-lit streets for training. That said please wear bright clothing, appropriate shoes for running and warm clothes for cold evenings.
